Cluster Gague problems

All my gauges work except from my speed one

Past history shows a investigation was done on the speedo. Checked speed sensor removed instrument checked wiring no faults. previous owner has replaced speedometer in instrument cluster.

I have seen online it can sometimes be the cogs or could it be something else.

It seems that a hot climate or some other source of high ambient temperature is what is likely to affect the cogs, if the car is a UK one and has not been exposed to high temperature the problem is not likely to be the cogs. There has been a recent thread about the cogs which may be useful to read.

If it is the speedometer (not the odometer which shows the distance travelled and is prone to worn cogs) then check the wires from the sender at the back of the differential. The last 10 inches of those can get brittle and snap inside the insulation.

Update I have taken the whole cluster out

The two sides are connected white and blue, but nothing was connected to the middle yellow one I can’t seem to find the wire anywhere any help it’s a 316i.

And the cogs seem fine working when I spun them it worked

The yellow socket is for connecting an OBC. If you don't have one then there won't be a plug for it.

Was it the speedometer, the odometer, or the trip meter not working or all three? Difficult to diagnose a fault when you're not sure what the EXACT symptoms are.

sorry im new to this all three are not working so when im driving the miles don't go up nor the trip meter nor I know what speed im doing

In that case, check the wires to the diff. as per BenHar's posts above. A break in the wire may not be obvious, as the copper breaks internally as a result of 'work hardening' because of vibration, and, for the same reason should be replaced, not repaired.

Look under the back of the car. In the middle is the differential with a driveshaft going to each rear wheel. On the back cover of the diff. case there is an oil filler plug, and oil drain plug, and an electrical socket with a plug pushed into it, and a cable with two wires going to the plug. It's these wires which can fail internally as a result of vibration from the diff.
One wire is brown, and goes to pin 8 of the white plug at the instrument cluster, and the other wire is brown/red and goes to pin 12 of the same plug.

While you have the cluster apart, check the soldering of the four pin sockets at the top of your pic of the speedo assembly.
Other soldering to check (nothing to do with your speedo fault) is the two joints for the component that lives under the rectangular lump beside the blue socket on the back of the case. The joints will be found on the circuit board, very close to the temp. gauge.
