Oil leak fron sump gasket. E30 320i

Been noticing a spot of oil on the drive for a few months now, so I took it into my local service station today. The mechanic tells me the oil sump gasket is leaking and it could either take him an hour and a half to sort it or it could take him 4 hours. He told me that they might have to drop the subframes which will mean other things having to be moved in order to sort it. What do you guys think?
