Hopefully some of you can shed some light on a problem I had this weekend.

I put the drive shafts on, pushed the splines end into the hub - then bolted up at the diff. Both sides. Then through tapping the hub and jacking up the trailing arm coaxed the threaded end of the drive shaft through the hub . . . on one side only!! 8O

The other side - no end of tapping the hub - tapping the drive shaft from the diff side would get it through enough for a thread to be visible to the out side. I pulled the drive shaft off and with a wire brush got the splines spotless clean - then some more copper grease and attempted again - still not going in enough to get the nut on it.

Any advise please on how to get this through? I need to get the wheels back on so I can get the car out of the garage.

Did you warm the old collar up to remove it from the hub flange?

No, I bought the hub off someone on the zone fb page. Hub looked good when I got it.

Wouldn't it be best to remove the driveshaft from the diff, then attempt to insert it into the hub?

When I had the drive shaft and hub off the car - i put them together to see if they lined up. Which they do. I then put the hub into the wheel bearing and then put the splines of the drive shaft into the hub, I couldnt push it in but it is lined up. So I bolted the other end of the drive shaft to the diff, then jacked up the trailing arm. This method worked on the drivers side enough for me to put the nut on the end of the shaft - tightened it up and all looks good. On the near side it pushed the splines end through the hub approx 3/4 way through, not enough to get the nut on the end of the drive shaft. So that is where I am now.

Maybe it just needs a bit of lube, such as WD40, etc...

I lathered it in copper grease. Maybe WD would have been better! I'll strip and try that. Cheers

Perhaps try removing the driveshaft and leaving it in the freezer for a few hours, to contract the metal a tad...

Fixed it!!!@ looks like the hub had been pushed out so some turning oof the shaft and hammering oon the outside of the hub got enough thread to get the nnut on. Thanks for your suggestions Maurice and aall.
