Spotlamp brackets

Has anyone any advise of fitting spotlamp brackets to an E30? Obviously a crucial point will be keeping the lamps clear of the opened bonnet. and I was wondering about using the bumper fixings.

May not be of any use to you, but I have XR2i spotlights mounted in the prefacelift fog light housings.
Not much modification required, and the spots are 10 times more useful than the fogs.
