Hi.I am eventually getting my e30 touring sorted in the coming 6 weeks. most mechanical is sorted but there is a electrical problem i can't figure out.

when the engine is shut down and the key removed the car is still in 'accessory mode' i.e. the first click of the key. the wipers, fan, brake lights etc all still work but no dash lights.

I have swapped ignition switch with my other e30 and still the same.

I there an ignition relay that could be jamming on or something of that nature?

it getting annoying having to disconnect the battery every time i turn off engine as the battery goes flat over time.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

There's no difference between the wiring of the iX and any other post facelift touring, that I'm aware of, unless someone knows otherwise. Certainly know of no wiring diagram that is iX specific.
There is an ignition controlled relay for the fan (K7), but the other two things you mention are fed directly (via fuses) from the switch.
The fuses fed from the accessories position of the ignition switch (purple wire) are F4, 5 and 6, plus F12, fed by a slightly different route.
The radio is one place that the purple wire and the red wire (12 volts permanent live) come close together, and also a place that is likely to have been butchered by DIY attention. Pull out the radio fuse (12) and see if this kills the brake lights and wipers.
Note that the heater fan should only run with the switch in the full ignition position, not the accessories position.

Thanks for your reply Brian.

From what you have mentioned I'm going to rip out the radio in the morning.. Its an aftermarket lloytron/clarion type crappy thing and was gonna get binned anyway. The back light remains on the radio display now that i think about it.

I will let you know if it fixes it.

Thanks again.

I tried a few things today.

I removed the fuses one by one as suggested with no joy.

I then went through the rest of the fuses with the wipers turned on so i knew which one made the difference. It turns out that removing fuse 27 solved the problem.

Ive had a quick look and fuse 27 serves a few things which all seem to be working. the only thing that doesn't work is the central locking. Could it be a faulty c/l unit that is causing the issue?

I will try un plugging it tomorrow to see.

Both the central locking ECU and the interior light delay timer (if fitted) have inputs from F27, and ignition switched live, but both of these are from position 2 on the ignition switch, not position 1 (accessories).
F27 is also the intended power feed for an auxiliary radio amplifier, and power from position 1 of the switch will also be fed to this, but only when the radio switch is on.
The wires from F27 are all red/black.

Does it seem that a previous owner butchered into the central locking circuit to connect some of the car accessories if they are live all the time. The central locking is a 30 amp circuit supplied by fuse 27 which is live at all times so maybe the reason. I remember when I got my e30, the retro-fit electric windows were wired into the central locking circuit.

thanks for the input. I never had a chance to look at it today due to work. Im defiantly going to pull the radio out first then work down to the c/l ecu if that doesn't work.
