Yo on my 325i auto turd, the brake pedal is slack and when your foot is not on the brake the weight of the pedal pulls it down so the lights stay on all the time.
Is there anyway i can adjust the brake pedal up so i can stop this nonsense?

Sounds daft but couldnt you put a spring just strong enough to support the load of the brake pedal on it ?

It should already have a spring that does that, and keeps it pressing on the switch as they are normally closed type brake switches. Sounds like yours has dropped off snapped or lost it's spring. Pop down the scrappy and have a look.

Spring may or may not have dropped off, but it sounds like the pull rod across the car behind the heater needs adjusting.
It has a LH thread at one end and a normal RH thread and a lock nut at the other (pedal) end.
Loosen the locknut and unscrew the rod a little by a small OE spanner on the flats near the end of the rod, keeping light pressure on the pedal to overcome the spring, untill the brake pedal comes up just short of the stop by the brakelight switch.
Don't forget to tighten the locknut, and then check the length of the rod again, to ensure that it is slack, but with no free play.

i had a look at this today and was overcome with brain ache, so i left it for now. But i couldn't see a spring, so maybe this has dropped.
I played with the link bar and it didn't seemed to do anything in terms of getting the brake lights out
Cheers though, i'll attack it another day
