If so, who did you use and for what work?
I have an intermittant speedo fault, and I'd like to have my cluster inspected, repaired and the SIB batteries and Odometer gears replaced. Does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere they have personally used and a rough indicator of cost?
Thanks
Has anyone had a cluster repaired in the UK?

before you start spending money on the cluster checked/repaired etc-have you checked the wiring from the senor on the diff ?
when i dropped the diif for an overhaul the wiring perished in my hand on mine.

All simple DIY jobs for anyone with basic soldering skills.
IF the speedo fault is in the cluster it will be cracked soldered joints holding the pins that connect the speedo to the main circuit board.
Odometer gears are very unlikely to ever need replacing on a UK based car. It's an affliction that normally only affects those in much warmer climes.
Battery replacement needs a little care to avoid damaging the copper tracks on the board, and some short wire links may need to be added if you can't find an exact match for the batteries.
Two soldered joints that hold a large resistor near the temp. gauge will also need resoldering if they've not been attended to already.

I'll check the diff wiring first then.
Is it worth just pulling the cluster and changing the batteries as a preventative measure? If so, is there a decent guide anywhere which addresses the early ('85) prefacelift cars?
Good to know the odometer gears arent too much of an issue. Mine works fine, it just seemed a sensible "whilst im in there" job - but I'll leave well alone.
Thanks

Search for "SI batteries" in this forum and in the wiki. The wiki also has a guide to removing the cluster.

My basic soldering skills were too poor. I had Munich legends repair mine, but that was over 12 years ago now.
