Hi all !
I am restoring an E30 318i automatic with an M10 engine. The car starts first time on the key when cold but appears to have no power for the first 1/2 mile even though it will rev in neutral. It drives without stalling but wont accelerate. After a short distance power comes on ok and the car runs perfectly. However if you then switch it off when warm it is hard to restart. Things like the fuel pressure regulator have been changed and there is plenty of spark. MAF is fine and fuel pressure is ok. Has anyone any suggestions as to what it may be ? (Cold start valve perhaps ? Fuel pump lazy ?) Once even slightly warm the car runs great and kicks down normally with no hesitation there are no misfires and nothing untoward however restarting from warm it needs cranking several times to catch.
Advice needed E30 M10 has no power when cold ?

you could have an intake air leak somewhere. inspect all vacuum lines , and rubber pipes that supply air or vacuum. check rubber intake from maf to throttle body for cracks.
the cold start injector is controlled by the thermotime switch , this firing (opening of the injector ) is varied between 6 - 10 seconds depending on the temp of the engine. I don,t know if the T.S could be at fault and
consequently opening for too long ? flooding the engine.
in the haynes manual number 1948 there are a couple paragraph about checking the cold start injector and the T.S . might be sometime on wiki on here.
I assume your car got the L-JETRONIC FUEL SYS. models up to 1987.
