Mate of mine has bought his first e30
A 1991 325i sport.
It failed MOT on high emissions. Too high on the C02 levels to be exact.
What I'm asking for info on is it has an issue when idleling. On cold start if you rev the car a little or a lot when the revs return to idle the revs drop way too low and the engine dies. Also when revved you'll get a puff of black from the exhaust. Not massively just a little.
Any ideas on a possible cause other than the usual Air Flow Meter and Idle Control Valve or Lambda sensor and plugs? We don't think it's a vacuum leak. So just some insight from anyone who had a similar issue before we start to look at all of the above.
The above issues and the emissions failure are likely connected
