Hi all!
It’s been a while since my 89 325i sport saw the light of day but I’ve decided the new year is time for me to start the restoration
I plan on waiting till the summer then getting busy
Basically I have to replace both rear arches (inner and outer) but I have genuine bmw replacements, the full rear quarter
I’m planning on spending the next couple of months researching the job and getting any more parts required
So, I know this isn’t for the faint hearted but also isn’t right up there with the difficault jobs to do
I have all genuine panels
I have a spot welder
I am a mechanic and handy with a mig welder
But research is key
For anyone who has done this before your help would be really appreciated and obviously I will be taking plenty of photos
My questions are
When removing the rear quarters is it necessary to brace the shell so it doesn’t move?
Is it worth replacing the rear panel as both quarters are coming off?
Has anyone put the body shell on a rollover jig to do any work and again, did you brace the shell for this (looking at the jig on eBay)
Any input would be great!
Thanks
