Hey zone I've been trying to get my temp gauge to work for a while and I'm having no luck. I've recently had the batteries changed and now the service lights work when ignition is on. The temp doesn't work and my tach just dies randomly. It was idling and the tach just fell to 0 with the car running fine any ideas?

Did you check the brass nut behind the temperature guage when you had the dash cluster out? The Wiki has advice on the instruments.

No I didn't I'm going to try that soon, it's annoying as I've got it all in again a˜‚ also the mpg gauge is on 50 when off then when the car starts it just hits 0 and stays there

Right I've taken the cluster apart and the nut I tightened a little more. The only other thing is all of the gauges return to 0 or 50 on the mpg one but the temp one will move and stay where it's left.

The wiki says:
Econometer
The econometer is dependent on the tachometer and the speedometer; therefore, anything that stops these two will also affect the econometer.
However, if these two are working normally but your econometer is not (especially if it reads Minimum or Maximum, but nothing in between) then the fault usually lies in the interior circuitry; the econometer is not receiving a speed signal from the speedometer. This is most likely caused by failing/ burnt out circuitry, or leaking SI batteries, and the only practical solution is to replace the dash cluster.
You mentioned a problem with the tachometer, is that still happening?

Urgg that's annoying if that's true as I just got the batteries replaced... Yeah the tach intermittently died. Although the ground nut on both of the fuel and temp gauges was very rusty.
