Hi all
Just a quickie, my brothers e30 was standing for a few days and I just noticed a oil leak from underneath. I just want some guidance before I take it to a mechanic. Any advice on what it could be??

Check the oil pressure switch and oil pressure relief valve, best to clean off the engine then run it and see where it is coming from, a little oil goes a long way on engine leaks.

It has a M20 engine, then, and a M20 without an oil leak (or two) is a rare beast, then, on top of that, there's other fluids in other parts of the car that could be leaking. Steering rack is becoming increasingly common, as they age.
This one's easy to check. The rubber boots on the ends of the rack should contain no fluid at all, so any sign of wetness coming from them condemns the rack.
If all is in order with the rack, then the oil contaminated area on the car needs to be cleaned up, and then carefully monitored for signs of where oil is beginning to come from. Once we know that, we can offer some more accurate and useful advice.
