Hi all
New to the e30 zone. My brother just bought a 325i 1989 model. Brilliant car, took it for a drive. It is a auto and whenever I changed gear it seemed with difficulty. Is this normal? Also the car jumped quite a bit when I changed gears.
It could all be normal as I am used to driving a merchant w124 but please help?
Thanks
KuzT

The change should be spot on at all times so check the fluid for level and colour.
Do this on a level surface and when the engine and box are hot and also engine running.
The fluid should be pink and not brown which indicates it`s time for a fluid AND filter change.
Mart.

Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Not sure I understand exactly what you're describing, but the gear change should be smooth, just like any other auto. You could be describing the symptoms of a failing torque converter.
Check the oil level on the gearbox dipstick, and note its colour and smell.
