Im trying to eliminate the black box above the ecu. Just wondering what wires i need to join above the glovebox at the accessory socket. Im guessing it is to do with the set of wires i am holding?
I also have a mess of red and white wires under the dash to the left, im not sure what they are for
And lastly there is this red wire by the glovebox that apears to be an afterthought?
the OBC is driven by the yellow connector on the back of the instrument cluster.
But there is one connector that needs attention if deleting the relay box.
In your third pic is a white two pin connector with a green and green/red wire.
This needs disconnecting and replacing with a jumper the connect the two wires together.
The red wire in pic 3 is the power feed for the electric aerial.
Looks like an alarm has been installed previously...
Thanks for the help. Ive searched the forum and found a post saying there should be a loose green wire/plug that can just be plugged into that plug. Mine doesnt have it. So can i cut and join the green and red/green wire before it gets to that plug. Is it definitely these wires on the right that need joining? And do i loop them as they exit the loom or plug?
Joining the green and green/red at the relay box would be the cowboy way of doing things. It's the same wires behind the glovebox, and that's the place to join them. The plug and socket should have two identical green wires on the body loom side and the green and green/red on the side to the OBC.
In the absence of the correct link hanging from the loom, and assuming you don't value the OBC loom, cut the green and green/red about 2" from the plug, solder the ends together and insulate, then refit the plug.
Thanks Brian it's all sorted now. I was getting a weird noise around the ecu area on cold starts which i believe was the relay. Ive just done the central locking mod also and noticed some severed wires, an orange and a grey, that travel down behind the central locking module
And also a plug that im not sure what its for or why its not plugged in
No plain grey or plain orange wires fitted by BMW anywhere near that area. Chances are that they are remote locking wires from an aftermarket alarm, fitted by someone who didn't know that they should be connected behind the glovebox area.
