Cant fit my rear bumper....

i have tried for like 2 hours trying to fit my rear bumper, it slides on easy enough but the bolts will not catch, am i missing something or am i just being dumb.

Check that you can put the bolts into the thread when the bumper is off the car first to see if the threads good.

Is this the same bumper that came off?
Has anything been done to the mounts on the car or to the bumper while it's been off?
I'm assuming this is a facelift plastic bumper, and not one of the primitive earlier metal ones.

Yes it is the face lift plastic one. And I've found out one is rounded on the thread so I've sorted it as best I can and removed the shocks and am going to place them on the bumper and fit it all together I think. I just didn't understand why it would line up.
