Wondering whether anyone has replaced their aerial for something aftermarket?
Really want to get rid of the original for a short fixed one.

Keep it original, why do you want to change it, is your car a convertible?

If you mean swap for a modern bee-sting aerial, should be a simple job-will prob. need an adaptor to marry the fat black lead on the new aerial up to the old lead in the car-the connector has changed over the years.
If your new aerial needs a 12v supply, then the white cable to the old aerial is the one to connect to.
I'd put grease or something on the mounting -hole in the wing to stop any rust in the future.

I added a switch to the HVAC panel so when I turn the stereo on to listen to MP3's I can cut the power to the the aerial so it stays down, being a cab it can "whistle/sing" at speed and my kids did say it looks like a remote controlled car with the aerial up

I have had a Google, and some use a Z3 convertible one?

Yep,can easily be done-my own 1987 car would need an adaptor, which only costs a few £,to run a modern aerial, because the design of connector changed a few years after it was made.

I did the same thing, modded an old emergency flasher switch and made a vinyl sticker for it, great for getting rid of that whistle from the whip at high speed!

Where did you get the adaptor from? or is it a generic thing?biffer wrote:Yep,can easily be done-my own 1987 car would need an adaptor, which only costs a few £,to run a modern aerial, because the design of connector changed a few years after it was made.

You can get them from anywhere.
Old standard, like on my car,was called DIN,and the newer one was called ISO.
A quick look on Ebay, under 'din to iso' shows loads of these small adaptors for £2.
i'm not up to speed on the latest cars and perhaps they, and their aerials, may have moved on to an even newer style of connector, needing a different type of adaptor again.
