My throttle pedal has become floppy - there is now about 1/2 inch of limp travel before it starts pulling the cable and firms up. Its an '89 chromie. Once the initial slack is taken up the car revs correctly.

Can anyone give me a steer on correcting it / tightening it back up, its driving me crazy!!! Can't work out if its the springs that have stretched or something else that has worn out.

Thank you.

On the end of the cable, above the throttle body, there's a nut and a white plastic thumbscrew type thing. You can use those to remove any slack from the cable by lossening the locking nut and winding the white thumbscrew up until it's flush with the TB - just make sure it doesn't allow the TPS to click when the throttle is closed, otherwise it'll mess with your idle. (You'll hear the click easily enough, so once you're done adjusting it, open the throttle and make sure that you can hear it click - if not, it'll need backing off.)

Why it's suddenly become loose is another matter...

Ah! I've been assuming the issue was at the pedal end, haven't checked the throttle body end! I'll pop the bonnet at lunchtime and take a look at the other end and see whats going on there.

Thank you for the information.

Turns out the nylon/plastic retainer that attaches the throttle cable to the throttle body arm has pulled out! Goodness knows how.

Thanks again TriggerFish, I'd have spent ages rooting around at the pedal end!!

:) Not a problem - glad it's fixed!

I replaced my throttle cable, didn't do the cable up and had only about 50-75% throttle opening. It was the first time I'd really driven it since buying it, and wondered why it was so slow!
