Just done around 120 miles today to an event. On the way back i noticed the temp gauge flickering and bobbing about at various times on the way home ( could've been on the way but didnt notice) . Although it never looked like it was hot or going to do so at times it flicked up and bounced about between halfway and the next notch. As i pulled on the drive it was halfway and still. Anyone experienced this. Ta

Small brass nut on the back of the cluster, right behind the temp. gauge.

So in fact nothing is going on overheating wise just the gauge misbehaving. Can i ask the so called nut , does it come loose or something. I have no issue getting the cluster out as ive had it out before.

Nut, which earths the gauge, as well as holding it in place, just works loose on its own over time. Been known to unscrew completely and fall off in some cases.

Have found over the years that tightening the nut on the gauge works temporarily by tightening two likely already tarnished connections together. You may be better removing the gauge and cleaning with fine sandpaper the connector on the circuit board and corresponding connector on the gauge as in this tutorial.

NEVER use sandpaper to clean electrical contacts of any kind. It leaves small particles of glass embedded in the metal surface.
Scrape or file it clean, or use the correct tool - a fibreglass pen http://cpc.farnell.com/unbranded/10191/ ... /SABU10191
