I'm in the process of replacing my front strut inserts and I removed the strut assemblies and stripped them down today.

The struts are generally in good condition with some surface corrosion as expected. However, there appears to be a little flange behind the bearing assembly which is very corroded and half missing.

Its a thin piece of metal that appears to protect the rear of the bearing/hub assembly. I assume it is to stop grit and water getting in to the back of the bearing.

Because it is so corroded, I'm thinking of just getting rid of it completely. If I do get rid of it, will it cause my bearings to fail prematurely?

Thanks

My bad, I just found out that it is the rear bearing dust cover which can be bought separately. Problem solved :)
