Hi everyone , I have a question about the central locking on my 318is. Everything works normal apart that after I start the engine the doors lock and I cant unlock them from the inside , I have to stop the engine and after that the doors will unlock. I am new to e30 and I looked in the cabin to see if there is a switch but I cant see it. Maybe anyone has some info . Thank you.

You have an aftermarket alarm/immobilizer that is doing this. Nothing to do with anything BMW fitted.

The PO fitted an aftermarket alarm system , but I don't even know what brand it is . I have two switches , one close to the gearshift and another one by the centre console that I don't know their use . I will have to check and see. Thank you for letting me know.

All I know is that most aftermarket alarm system cause untold issues, sometimes its best to rip it out and start afresh.

I would say it is always better to take it out (but carefully not ripping) and not replace it. If you have to leave your car somewhere where it might be vulnerable, use a well made steering wheel clamp or something similar. Alarms cause far more trouble than they prevent, and not just on cars.
