Hi Guys,
if I was to take out the cig lighter and replace it with a USB replacement thingy, will there be any issues? also the illuminated gear knob is also powered of the cig lighter too? Any suggestions on that?

I took a feed from the existing cig lighter wiring and soldered in a second lighter socket behind the dash, then I plugged in a phone charger and routed the cable through above the ashtray so that all there is visible is the charger wire and mini USB coming through from behind.
Works well and keeps the original cig lighter.

These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Only minor downside is that most of them have a small led light and as the cigarette lighter is always on you get a small parasitic draw. I just installed one and as the bezel around the charger is slightly larger than the bare lighter hole it sits on the ashtray edge. I used a piece of 1/8" neoprene cut in a ribbon and wrapped it around the outside as a gasket which raises the charger just enough so it looks/fits fine.

I'm going to use one of these, hardwired into the loom. Then the plan is to mount the USB plug using one of the OEM switch blanks.

There's a 2 port version available as well.

Let me know how you get on with it. I bought a twin one ages ago and it wouldn't charge anything. Sent it back as faulty and got another, but it was the same so I had a mate test it. It seemed to be working but would only power a LED light, it wouldn't charge a phone or satnav etc etc.Kedge wrote:I'm going to use one of these, hardwired into the loom.
