Hi All
I was driving my car back from London yesterday and the temperature needle was constantly stuck in the red.
I have checked and there is plenty of coolant in the tank.
Any ideas why this could be and how to fix. Hope I haven't caused any damage to my engine? I drove over 800 miles in total I think.
Any help would be appreciated and prices?

As with traffic lights, 'red' means stop. Stop NOW, not in a couple of miles time, and most certainly not in 800 miles time.
Was the needle just into the red, or hard to the right? If the engine survived 800 miles, and your luck is in, it may just be an instrumentation fault, rather than actual overheating

If it was overheating and a proper reading there's no way you would have driven 800miles without noticing something was wrong, steam means stop too.

When my brown temp sensor failed, it would go straight to red as soon as you started the ignition - even after leaving it hours and it being cold to the touch. As my engine had just been rebuilt, I panicked and got it towed home, only to find it was just a bad sensor.
If you turn it on now, does it go straight to red, or sit in the blue?
