I had a whining sound coming from the diff (assuming it's the diff). It's not very loud can only hear it with hood down coasting in neutral on a smooth road. It's a 3.72 medium size, open diff, standard for 325 cabs according to the wiki.
I changed the diff oil used Comma 75W-90 GL5 Gear oil as opposed to Halfords 80W-90 diff oil. The sump plugs were locked solid so I assume it's never been changed in 150K miles.
My questions are: will this fix it or am I going to require a rebuild at some point, and is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Could be the diff.
If you looking at keeping the car long term I would invest in an overhaul, a zoner called Gareth overhauled mine a few years ago and did a great job.

Thanks for the advice aimless. I tried it today and it seemed a bit better. It's a keeper so if it doesn't go away I'll probably get it overhauled thanks for the advice.
