Hi,

Hope someone can help me.

I've got a pre face lift 318i.
For the past few times the car has been intermittent.

Example: turned key 2 turns -lights on dash came on. Turned it to start and nothing. Dash lights off like the battery is dead. (Battery is only a few months old) I get another car from across the road to jump start it. Before even opening the bonnet tried starting again and it started fine.

Any idea what could be wrong or causing this?

Thanks

Do you have an aftermarket alarm?

Nope. Car doesn't get much use at all. Probably one drive of about 5 miles every 3-6 months. So I assumed it was the battery but even with a new battery it does this but happens out of the blue.

Check the connections to the battery, especially the smaller cables on the + terminal.

Check that the two smaller cables are making good contact with the main clamp, and that the clamp is making good contact with the battery pole.
Best way to do this is to remove the NEGATIVE clamp from the battery, then dismantle everything on the positive pole and reassemble it.
Don't be surprised if this has no effect on the fault whatsoever. It's just the first (and an easy) thing to check.
