Fuse Box Ground Relocation

Hi all. Searched for an answer on this but can't find one. In my pre-facelift car the passenger side fuse box used to ground on the battery on the drivers side. If I relocate the battery to the boot, can I shorten the fusebox ground wire and terminate it on the passenger side suspension turret?
1987 316 pov spec, upgraded to M52B28
