Hi guys,
My aux fan is not coming on.
It works when the air cond is switched on (low speed)
It also works when i jumper the switch connectors (with a wire) for both low speed and high speed.
I bought two new aux fan switches, thinking that they were stuffed...and still no luck....
Temp gauge reads just over 3/4 and still no fan... scared to drive the car!!
Have i missed anything? Anyone else have this kind of issue?
Thanks
George

If everything you say above is true, then there's only three possible explanations.
1/ Coolant circulation is impaired by a faulty water pump or thermostat, and the coolant is being cooled sufficiently by the top couple of inches of the radiator so that by the time it reaches the switch, it's too cold to trigger it.
2/ There's a break in the common wire to the thermoswitch, which makes contact when you remove the plug for testing, but breaks again when refitted.
3/ There's a fault with the temperature gauge, and the coolant isn't as hot as you think it is.
You say the gauge is on 3/4, and you're afraid to drive the car. Is this with the aircon off?
Unless you're in some part of the world that is a LOT hotter than here, then the cooling system should behave without the aid of an auxillary fan with the aircon off.

Your temp gauge is probably giving an incorrect reading

Thanks Brian & Dan,
When the car got past 3/4, i immediately put the heater on.... temp dropped to exactly 3/4... did not drive car with air con on (forgot about it actually)...did the air cond test the next day...
New water pump, timing belt and thermostat only a year ago!!
Will test again tomorrow. ... yeah, Live in Perth, Western Australia.... summer is on the way with some pretty hot 40+degree days the norm !!

When the gauge is reading as high as it gets, give the top of the instrument binnacle a sharp tap with your hand. Any effect on the gauge?
