So my motors are either on the blink or the holes are gunked up on the windscreen washers yeah, not a surprise in itself. But I ended up with a puddle in the footwell and I happened to be doing an engine bay inspection and noticed the full-to-the brim windscreen wash tank had emptied down to an inch. The water in the car was soapy but my first thought is that was because the mats had been valleted/shampoed. Now I think it came from the washer tank, am I mad?

Washer tank is so far forward in the engine bay and all piping runs up bonnet.
Id be checking scuttle drains and the elephant trunk (near the battery) on the bulkhead to start and behind bulkhead sound deadening for rusty scabs or water marks. Check under battery tray too

So how did the tank get empty? That can only happen if the grommets where the pumps push in leak, or the pumps run when they shouldn't do. Tank can also empty on cars with headlamp washers, if the inline valves near the nozzles fail (which they commonly do).

Thanks for the info chaps, much appreciated. It's weird but the washer tank could still be a red herring when diagnosing the football water - I cleaned the elephant trunk so will continue down the checking all the usual leak fixes and forget the washer tank for now. Thanks again.

Maybe there's a leak though Brian, I will get it checked too. Thanks.
