used my car the other day after couple weeks of it sitting and theirs nothing from the heater.before it sometimes only worked on 4 then if i faffed with the switch 1 2 3 and four would work. would that be a sign of the resistor dying or the motor itself? as it obviously could be both but i wanted to clarify before spending money. i have a switch coming as its never clicked properly.

Never seen a dud fan switch yet, but if yours doesn't sound right, and the fan motor can be made to work by playing with it, then there's a good chance that yours could be the first.
Heater resistors are killed by partly seized motors, and if your motor hasn't been trmoved since the car was built, then it's time it was removed and lubricated.
