Guys, after giving The Red Bastard a full service, cam belt, coolant change etc. I've got her mot'd and the emissions are super lean, like 0.20% CO on a 4.50% limit and 316ppm on a 1200ppm limit ( no idea what ppm is!) I've swapped the AFM to one I had from a mate's engine that he swapped out and it seems to run a little better, but the plugs still look like it's running super lean and I really don't wanna burn my valves out! What's my next play? Been considering adjusting the resistance on the spring in the AFM to richen it up, but I know this is all a lot of guesswork. Also what does the Allen screw in the housing do? Looking for someone with a bit of expertise on this, even if I gotta take it to someone. I'm in Gloucestershire.
Thanks in advance :D

DON'T TOUCH THE ADJUSTMENTS, and hope that no one has touched them before.
The 'adjustments' are correct - it's the engine that's wrong.
Usual causes of a weak mixture (on an engine with no lambda sensor controlled feedback loop) are injectors that are long overdue for a rebuild, and assorted air leaks into the inlet system, after the air meter.
Ppm = parts per million, by the way.

OK Bri, I think someone has messed with the Allen key bolt as the tamper proof cover has been cut off.
So going on the injector road I've been researching on rebuilding them and it looks a nice simple job so I'm gonna get on it. My question is now- best place to get a rebuild kit???
Many thanks mate

Don't attempt a DIY rebuild. You won't be able to calibrate them afterwards.
Send them off to "injectortune" in our traders' section.
If the anti tamper plug has been removed, it's bad news. You'll have to ensure that everything on the engine is in perfect order, then have it adjusted with a CO meter attached to the exhaust.
