Brake Pads

E30 325i 1989 convertible -ABS

Fitted new master cylinder, hoses, some new hard lines, all new ATE callipers and discs and currently ATE pads.

The pedal is great, the car stops, but there is what I consider poor braking when the pads are cold, warm them up and the bite gets better.

Any suggestions for makes/type of pads that may give me better bite when cold?

I'm using the car quite a lot, but no track or mad driving - just fast here on the autobahn, so when driving fast, the pads and discs get cold and then feel poor if you have to hit the brakes hard, as they heat the bite is better - not looking forward to the winter.

The current ATE pads also create quite a lot of dust, not too sure what is "normal"

Should of used genuine pads and discs

The car was built with ATE breaking equipment, that's exactly what I've replaced everything with - so they are genuine and OEM.

My question pertains to the difference between pad manufacturers and breaking feel - the car was equipped with Textar T444 at the front and Jurid's at the back when the car left the factory, so currently looking for these to test.

Well you know OE is textar front and jurid rears, that's about the best you'll get from dead cold.

I swear by Mintex 1144 for road use. Much better bite than standard pads.

So Textar, Mintex and Pagid are all made by TMD friction (German) - all different compounds I guess.

Jurid Honeywell is also a German company, who make the original rear set - pretty pricey!

I've ordered up an OEM set front and rear - interesting to see the difference.

Apart from using the ATE pads, I've also tried Zimmerman, better bite but not great from cold.

Finally got a set of Jurid on the rear and Textars on the front, the difference is huge, so much better, recommended.
