I've had a fault on car for few years but never managed to solve, but it seems to be getting worse.Ive changed many parts, but no luck sorting it,basically 1500-2000 rpm coughs and sputters any thing after that it's a bit better but nowhere near perfect. When the car not driven for a couple of days or more,it runs on 5 and occasionally 6.The only way I can describe it,it's a if its damp.I got back of a weeks holiday yesterday and I started it and it kicked out a lot of blue smoke followed by running badly on 5.I got it mot a month back and the tester said it was running rich, any ideas. Its done 110k and it's never had the fuel injectors seviced, could this be the problem.

A misfire will show up on a MOT gas test as 'running rich', even if the engine is generally running lean, and a cylinder running excessively lean will misfire.
Fuel injectors could be problem, as could a whole host of other things, so a bit of testing is in order.
Lets have a look at the business end of the spark plugs for a start.
I take it we're talking about the car in your sig., and it has a standard engine?

Yes it is the car in the sig and completely standard.Ive so far changed spark plug leads, afm, blue temp sensior, had a new tps and adjusted to spot on,black round fuel regulator, camshaftht,ht cap, fuel filter, rotor arm, checked for air leaks. The only other is since I've owed the car it's never run upto temp ie just under quarter, occasionally it goes up to just under a half in traffic but soon goes down when I start moving.

Pull the plugs and post some pictures. Injector overhaul may not be the sole problem but having a refurb set will at least give a bench mark and rule them out. It will likely make the car run much better in any event.

Just noticed it's a B20, I have a spare set of B20 injectors in my stash, ideal for sending for a refurb. Pm me if you need them. Cheers Gary
