I've got a 91 325i Cab with original dark Hella headlights.
I'm thinking for a HID Headlight upgrade due to the fact my night vision is poor.
I'm on a budget and I would probably search Ebay, is it H1 or H7 for main beam and has anyone had experience or advice?
Thanks

H1 for dipped beam, got a set on my sport,
you can get a 55w kit on ebay for about £15 - £20, there's loads on there.

I've read on a sellers advert that their 55w kits are 'for road or show use only', would it be safer and pass MOT if I was to go for 35w 4300k, apparently closer to OEM.
Thanks

I've been running 55w 6000k for a good few year's with no problems.
Just make sure the beam/pattern us correct & the light don't dazzle on coming traffic then your good to go.

I've been slowly working my way down the colour temperature charts (on factory equipped xenon cars). I started at 6k with my Polo, then found them too blue, so swapped to 5k when I got my 330d, then swapped those out again for some Osram Nightbreakers, which are meant to be 4.3-4.5k. They look slightly blue head on, but are a lot less stark/have more warmth at night, and reduce strain a lot as a result, I find.
Anyway, my point is, regardless of closeness to OEM, there's a degree of personal preference from the light output given off.

That's really good info. I'll think I'll settle for a set of 35w 4300w HID. Closer to the current OEM style and still with a vast improvement on the original E30s brightness. Thanks.
