Bought an iS recently which had a bit of a clunking nose when your coasting and then go onto the throttle, noticed it when shifting into 5th also today and maybe even when going from neutral to putting it in gear. I had the rear jacked up recently and the beam bushes look decent, I couldn't really see the diff bush properly. Also noticed with the wheels of the ground when turning the wheel one way and then the other there's a bit of clunk. I'm assuming it shouldn't do this? The diff was supposedly rebuilt, however judging by the weeping oil maybe it wasn't properly done

I once had a similar clunk on pull away gear change etc. I'd forgotten to full tighten the 4 nuts on the prop where it connects to the diff...

This all day... same happened to me. They are a bastard to tighten you really need breaker bar.

Diff to subframe bolts, and check at the same time for a cracked beam, this can be hard to see but give it a thorough check.

The other one not mentioned are the rear shock top mounts.

Got the car on a friends ramp last weekend, one of the top diff bolts was a little lose, the other drive shaft bolts also started coming lose but everything else is was fine. Except the backlash in the diff, it was clearly never set when the diff was rebuilt

Will I be doing harm driving it until I can get someone to look at it and set the backlash and fit be seals?
