Just replaced my brake servo and now the brake lights are permanently on. Is it just a case of adjusting the bolt on the servo rod?

It is but I don't think the pedal is making contact with the switch when not being pressed.

Have you refitted the same servo or fitted a different one?

Sounds like the pedal is not going high enough to activate the switch. BMW have measurements for the pedal height , am sure I saw something maybe on the wiki. The brake rod can be adjusted to get the pedal height back up. Assuming the switch is still plugged in.

So it is the bolt on the servo rod that needs adjusting?

If the original servo is back in where it was, and the push rod hasn't been adjusted in the meantime, then the pull rod that goes across the car behind the heater box needs shortening to lift the brake pedal up to just short of as high as it can be lifted.
Rod has locknuts that need to be loosened, a RH thread at one end, a LH thread at the other, so it can be shortened or lengthened by turning it, and a couple of flats, just where it passes the clutch pedal, so that it can be turned with a small spanner.

Does that also apply to a lhd car? I suspect not!

LH drive car doesn't have a pull rod, so adjustment is solely by the servo push rod, but because there's nowhere near as much linkage, a LH drive car should rarely, or never, need adjusting.

Unfortunately this one does! It's just 1 or 2 mm.

Am I right in thinking the servo has to come out again to adjust the rod? Sod that, I've stuck a 5p coin on the pedal so it makes contact with the switch as a temporary measure!
