1989 325i Vert... non CAT

I have a back-box with short pipes which are then U Bolted to center vibration damper box which has long rear pipes welded to box, front pipes from the damper are short then flange- clamped to long down pipes from manifold.

Sorry about spooky description, but none of this system corresponds with the drawings from BMW for my vehicle - I should have long pipes from manifold to center damper, short pipes both ends of the center damper - the rear should be: silencer then long pipes to the center damper.

Can't find anything to replace my center unit, they all have the wrong pipe arrangement to fit what I have - is it time for an entire new system - gulp - I need a mortgage!

Shouldn't be any 'U bolts' in a BMW system, so it's non standard, but the ETK diagrams aren't necessarily representative of the part they refer to, so can't be used as assembly diagrams or to identify parts you have.
In some cases the parts are very similar to the diagrams, but for others they are totally different.

Thanks for that Brian, yes I've had an experience or two like this, but I'm a bit freaked by the system I have. It's now off the car, I'll post some pictures, maybe someone will help to identify the bits I may need.

The back box has been chopped and split to allow the pipes to be sleeved - obviously a bodge - I just need to determine what's real and what's not.

So, this is what I have fitted, having dismantled all the old crap, it appears to make sense - looks like U bolts are needed though.
