I'm trying to figure out what the numbers are on my VIN plate (in the engine bay), I can see the model name (325i) and the VIN as well as the vehicle weights, but what are the numbers under the model name in the left hand column?

I've Googled this but haven't been able to find anything, I'm a little reticent to add a picture of my own VIN plate but I found an image of a similar one already online.

There are loads of Vin decoder sites around. Here's one:

The 170/3 is the body colour, plus shade variation, and I suspect the bottom line is the lighting specification - various markets have different regulations regarding fog light combinations, etc.

23 6 E C is the engine code. (Just found that in Autodata while looking up ignition timing figures to answer another post.)

I think you'll find the model code says '323i', not '325i'.

That VIN decoder link is lame - you keep having to enter in the details to get no info. :?
