Number plate surround

Hi chaps,

I bought one to pimp up my ride and it doesn't fit.

The part number is 1961241, I've checked with realoem and its right for an E30.

My car is a 1986 pre-facelift. The number plate surround is too wide for my car (the rear lights get in the way) and the rear number plate lights don't line up with the holes in the surround.

Any ideas?

Dumb question maybe but wouldve thought there would be two versions pre & facelift ?
You dont say which model the item number is for

Yeah,

realoem says part number 51131961241 is from 1982 onwards but not for my car.

Then, I've just looked at the ETK and it quotes part number 51131888450 for my model (prefacelift 1986).

So, yes there are 2 types and not simply facelift and prefacelift it seems. That bit confused me too.
