Assuming the switch lights up when it's switched on, it's unlikely to be anything other than a faulty screen.
Connect a 12 volt bulb across the screen, on the tabs that the connectors push onto, and check that it lights with the ignition and switch on.

Nothing as complicated as that on an E30 - just a simple on/off switch.yeti wrote: thought there would be some control modual or something to slow regulate the flow? ive got a multi meter ill check the feed that way thanks brian
Use a bulb, not a meter, to check as I described above. Meters can give extremely misleading results on unloaded circuits.
Be very careful with the connecting tabs to the screen - they are easily broken away from the screen, and for that reason, don't pull the plugs off unless you absolutely have to.
