Should hopefully be at the stage tomorrow to start building together the new engine for my Sport. The block has 67k mile apparently and looks in good condition. Is there any way of telling if the oil pump is still ok by looking or moving it? I havent taken it out yet to inspect.
PS - how the hell do you get the dipstick out of the block! I cant get the damn thing to come out of my old block. Is it screwed in or something from the inside?!

You have to pull and wiggle the dipstick tube, it's just a push fit.
Think you might be able to check the clearances in the pump, but for the Ԛ£90 they cost, it's worth replacing this vital component, along with the main bearings and big ends if the engine's out.
Don't forget to order the little hexagonal bar that drives the pump too

How much are the bearings and big ends for a whole set? The block only has 67k miles on it apparently so should be pretty good still.
I'll know more tomorrow hopefully when I get the sump off for a closer look.

67k!!! This engine's almost new. Unless it's been badly abused, I wouldn't touch anything.

That'll do me.
The water pump that came off it was in good condition and the rings still feel nice and tight so fingers crossed the oil pump and bearings etc should still be like new as you say.
