I have been having a massive issue with cooling ever since replacing my head on the M52B28, Did the thermostat, waterpump, housing, new hella rad, Victor Reinz gasket so on and so forth.
Bled the system a few times, got it to what i thought was ok.
My gauge is erratic and just hops into the red, However if i fiddle with the wiring harness at the rear of the gauge it hops to the middle and back again.
What sort of flow should i expect from the top of the header tank whilst the car is idling? It doesn't flow whatsoever unless i increase the revs.
Cheers

Have you tightened the earthing nut on the back of the temperature gauge?
I think it's quite normal to see no flow at the top of the header tank except with increased rpm.

have you bled it up with the heaters on full and the car pointing slightly up hill ? It's also best to fill these through the top hose with the rad cap removed until coolant comes out the top hose part on the rad .

You need to check the engine temperature with something other than the standard gauge.
