Hi did a quick search but could not see my issue. I have a loud rattle from the front of my engine no leaks or overheating if I hold and move the fan it has a lot of play like it is loose . So question is do I need a new viscous or is it the water pump or will I not know till I start dismantling any help appreciated .

Could be either the WP or the fan... Unless either have been replaced recently i would replace both..imo.

if your removing the WP may be the idea time to the the timing belt also!

If the pump pulley moves with the fan, then it's the pump. If the pump pulley doesn't move with the fan, then it's the viscous.
Very difficult to replace the pump and keep the cam belt tensioner spring in place (although it's not necessary to fit it), so agree with changing the belt if changing the pump.
