are there various shades for this colour?

background- bought premixed aerosol of this colour to re-paint some tatty parts on my 1987 car, delphin grey-184. so far so good.

after painting and refitting the bits,it was obvious that the new paint, whilst similar in colour, was noticably bluer than the adjacent old paint-the old stuff having a definate green caste to it when compared to the new paint.

so is this a case of crap mixing of the aerosol paint,or have there perhaps been subtle shade variations of this colour over the years?

I can't say I have ever looked at the colour chips for your colour but I would bet that there are several variant shades also something painted from a rattle can will never match a gun finish

There are shades of the various colours.

This should be marked on the nearside strut turret. For example....184/7...the shade is number 7.

ok that makes sense.
being interested in cars in general i knew that lots of colours can have many shade variations,so i googled dolphin grey but nothing came up.
thanks for the turret sticker idea-will look tomorrow and take it from there.

Sorry to say I have tried touching up dolphin grey from a rattle can and it was miles out, I'm sure a can would never match original paint or even a resprayed car.

If I remember correctly there are 5 shades and one almost looks green

The paint code and the label is the same for all of them; you just have to match it up

To further complicate it, some paint manufacturers may only list 4 shades
