When replacing these.. Is it just necessary to change the ends? or do you replace the inner part as well?

Track rods are the bit from the rack to the track rod end.

I usually fit both of them. They're not particularly expensive. And quite often you will find that the track rod end has seized to the track rod, and it's more hassle unseizing that spending a few quid on a new one.

Thanks guys.. I just thought because the track rod doesn't seem to have rubber like the end, there would be nothing on it that could wear. But yeah they're all pretty cheap so will just get the lot. :)

??? No rubber in a track rod end joint either. Track rod has a ball joint on its inner end that can occasionally wear, and track rod end has a ball joint that frequently wears.

I think he means the rubber boot that usually gets an MOT failure Brian? I just replace the lot, chances are what you have is already 20 odd years old and seized up with rust, a pair of new is only £50
