Hi,

Recently had an issue with the reversing lights - well, actually fuse 10 kept blowing and having googled it by the side of the road found that the reversing lights wiring might be at fault, so disconnected the wires from the gear box (next to the gear stick) and the fuse hasn't failed again, so presuming it is the wiring back to the lights.

However, of course the reversing lights aren't now working!!

Any tips / guidance on solving would be gratefully received

It's the wiring under the car to the gearbox switch, not to the rear lights, that you need to look at. It has rubber insulation that has perished, or has come unclipped and made contact with the propshaft.

Top tip Brianmoooore, the short was due the wires coming from the gear box switch being pinched between the rubber grommet covering the hole in the tunnel and the tunnel, they were caught when the grommet was replaced at some time - couple of layers of electric tape to re-insulate them both and bingo, reverse lights :)
