5. Water from inside the scuttle box finding its way between the double skin that form the top of the bulkhead, rusting its way through the thinner inner panel, and entering the cabin near the studs for the glovebox hinge. If the RH stud has orange streaks below it, or breaks off when you try to release the nut, this is very bad news.willnz wrote:You need to remove the glove box and get in behind and have a good look. There are several places where rust causes leaks into the passenger footwell..
1. firewall rusting around the rubber grommet where the main body loom goes to the fuse box.
2. rust around the body where the heater matrix pokes through to the fan housing area.
3. rust around the grommet where the heater hoses go through the firewall.
4. water getting in between the heater pipes and the rubber grommet.
Another problem could be the heater matrix radiator leaking.
If 4. is the problem, this is easily checked by simply tasting the damp in the footwell. Coolant (at the proper strength) is extremely sweet.

Cheers ill check this all tomorrow morning, I don't think its the heater matrix as my coolant is fine did a cooling overhaul a couple months back and everything seems to be working fine, it doesn't smell of coolant and gets worse in the rain...ill have a proper rumage around tomorrow.
