Shifter issue

I just got my car up and running. When I'm rolling down the road in gear you can hear it clinking off the gears unless you pull up on the shaft it doesn't make the noise it has been short shift from po

Sounds like the bottom of the gear lever/linkage is getting slightly intimate with something prop. shaft related, as a result of poor installation of the 'short shifter'.
If this is anything that features coloured anodised aluminium, then it is best removed and binned, or served up to someone unsuspecting on ebay, and replaced with a genuine Z3 1.9 item.
A possible cure is to remove the steel vibration damper that is fitted around the guibo, if it is still there. This part no longer has any function, was not fitted by BMW on any succeeding models, and can be removed with no ill effects.

I just removed my rubber dust cover and saw that my lever is actually rubbing and resting on the drive shaft itself. It seems like the rear console mount isn't fully holding the lever up or something. I have pictures but don't know how to post them. Any recommendations on the shift lever is much appreciated.
