Drain the diff of oil and unbolt the back plate.

Cut out the rubber bush until you can see the steel ring that surrounds it.

Pass a hack saw through the back plate so you can cut through the steel ring being careful not to damage the aluminium.

Let the ring fall away from the back plate.

Press a new bush in.

Before you drain the oil, make sure the fill bung is not seized in.

Also the gasket is about £1.00 from BMW, the bush will also be available.

Remember that the rear cover is quite fragile. When you fit the new bush, put it in the freezer for a couple of hours first, heat the rear cover to as high a temperature as you can hold, and make sure the area where the bush fits is fully supported when you press or tap the bush in.

It is?

I never had an issue, done quite a few now. Perhaps cleaning the cover up before hand and care has been the answer.

Maybe just lucky.
