M50B25TU (single vanos) running problem

Hi all, got a problem with my M50 I can't work out - need some recommendations.

Car was running fine until yesterday evening, when I started the car to some running trouble. I noticed that the car had no power under any sort of load. It revs freely with the clutch depressed, but won't accelerate the car. It doesn;'t misfire through the exhaust, but there are some definite hesitations in the engine.

I disconnected the MAF, (as I've come to know how sensitive these engines are to vac issues!) and the car's behaviour changed - it'll accelerate OK now between 1-3k, but has nothing any higher.

There were no issues with idle when the MAF was plugged in, but it hunted a little bit when disconnected. I also noticed that the breather hose seems to be drawing quite a lot of oil into the intake?

I'll attach a couple of pics later, when it's not pitch black! Any ideas appreciated!
