Hi I have 2 questions.

Is it 17mm hex required to get the fill and drain plugs off a getrag gearbox?

Do they have ay kind of washer or gasket on them?

Thanks in Advance

17mm yes, and no washer they don't have any kind of shoulder - like a big grub screw they just nip up into the casing.

I read of someone using a 17mm headed bolt with the double nut method if you don't have the size of hex key.

Thanks for that, and thanks for the tip - I was just about to order a 17mm hex!

Sorry for the obvious but make sure the filler plug comes out first before draining out the oil.

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Done that many times in a pinch. can work a treat, especially if you can dab a spot of mig on there to hold it as well.

I tried today and snapped 2 17mm bolts, the filler plug won't budge. Left soaking in wd40 and will find a 17mm hex at work.

Haven't touched the drain plug yet. Was also considering using a wheel bolt.

Used a hex socket on mine with a ratchet - came out pretty easy. Make sure to get the correct oil as well > http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... il#Gearbox
