I'm in the process of putting an e46 rack on.

I am using the e30 inner and outer track rods.

The wiki says to re-install the locking washer / locking plate between the inner track rod and the rack.

However the e46 rack lacks the indent to locate the locking washer, so it would not actually lock.

Is this right?

So do I install without the locking washer, or do I need to put it on just for the extra 2mm or so it gives?

Thanks

I don't fit the washers, as you say there is nothing for them to lock into.

As said by Dan. I've never bothered with the washers. Just tighten then up and not worry. I've seen people mention thread lock, but there's not turnin force on them for them to come loose.

You might need to drill a hole too for the pressure in the boots to equalise, other wise they may pop off on full lock

I took the track rods out of an E46 rack the other day, they had been thread locked in and were a nightmare, I thought the rack was going to break at one point because I had so mush leverage on it!

Using e46 inner rods is the better bet, I think.

Triggerfish, pls don't take this the wrong way but have you actually tried to use E46 inner rods yourself..?

No offense taken :) I was just trying to remember what I read in the Wiki. (Which says e46 inner with e36 outers - I thought it was e46 inner and e30 outer)

Do they not work after all then?
